Sybil Campbell (1889–1977) was appointed as a stipendiary magistrate (now known as a district judge, Magistrates’ Court) in London in 1945.

Dorothy Knight Dix QC (1909–70) was appointed the deputy-recorder of Deal in 1946 (an appointment as a part-time judge). She was the first female judge to pass a sentence in a criminal case in what is now known as the Crown Court.
