The traditional business model has changed dramatically in the last few years. The area of e-commerce presents a significant opportunity for both existing industries and new start-ups.

Take Gocompare.com, founded in 2006 by insurance entrepreneur Hayley Parsons. The company’s advertising might produce some of the most irritating sounds to come from a television, but Parsons has netted a £3.2 million windfall after the price comparison site she founded reported a year of record profits. Parsons, 38, set up Gocompare after spending 14 years working for Cardiff-based insurer, Admiral. At Admiral she worked on the company’s own price comparison website, Confused.com, against which Gocompare now competes.
