Polymers are made from shorter, less complex molecules called monomers that join together by covalent bonds to form a repeating molecule in a process called polymerisation. Thermosetting polymers provide a solid matrix for composite materials, with fibres (such as glass fibres) embedded for toughness. Polymers have a myriad of applications on Earth, in the air and in space.
