In this column, I will look at the effects of emigration on a developing country, address the role of statistics in economics — and the fear of it — and introduce the idea of human capital.

In Bindi Shah and Jackline Wahba’s article on migration, there is a focus on the determinants of migration and the impact it has on the receiving country. Here, I will look at the effect that emigration has on the sending country.
