It may come as a surprise, but the food we choose to put on our dinner plates has a significant impact on our climate and can even determine how effectively humanity is able to respond to climate change. The reason for this is that agricultural food production, and in particular the farming of livestock, is a main contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.Greenhouse gases block heat from escaping our atmosphere (the greenhouse effect) and contribute to the warming of the Earth’s surface (global warming).
