Environmental concerns, in particular climate change, are of growing importance in developed countries. Sustainable living is seen as the key to reducing global warming and protecting the environment.

Such issues are also important in developing countries, but here the immediate problems of poverty may demand more attention. In countries where clean drinking water, adequate sanitation and healthcare are not widely available, global concerns about greenhouse gas emissions are not seen as a priority.
