Typicality questions

Twiggy (right) in the 1960s

Questions regarding the typicality of a source require you to analyse the content of the source, the information supplied relating to its provenance and to test the source using your own knowledge of the period in question. You should be prepared to question any generalisations made regarding teenagers. Not all teenagers in the 1960s and 1970s wore extreme mini-skirts, not all teenagers got the chance to experience ‘free love’ or were on the pill and not all teenagers participated in protest movements. Commonsense, if nothing else, should make you wary of accepting generalisations about the past in the light of your experience of being a teenager in Britain today.

How typical do you believe Source A to be of teenagers’ experience of fashion in the 1970s?
