How useful are statistics for historians?

Statistics present information in a form that is clear and easy to understand, but they often provide limited information. The table and pie charts in Source A provide useful information about the impact of the Second World War and a comparison with the First World War, but the information is narrow in scope. Many questions remain unanswered from the data:
