To understand why particular interpretations of historical events develop and change over time you need to have a broad understanding of both chronology and how major political, social and economic changes lead to new interpretations of the past. To answer interpretation questions effectively at the highest level you need to be able to place the interpretations within the context in which they were written as well as to reflect on their portrayal of the past.
