Despite Mary, Queen of Scots, and Elizabeth I of England never meeting in person, the relationship between these two women has long fascinated serious historians and the public alike. Mary’s execution in 1587 has often been considered a political necessity, but was it Mary herself or the historical context of her times which made her more threatening to Elizabeth?
