Making effective presentations

This column aims to give you the tools to deliver more effective presentations, and in doing so improve your learning

The requirement for students to make presentations of their work is now commonplace on A-level, IB and undergraduate history courses. It is fair to say that most people are apprehensive about carrying out such a task. However, giving a presentation has many benefits when it comes to improving your chances of exam success. This article provides some guidelines on how to make the most effective presentations so that they become less daunting and more rewarding.

A presentation involves the expounding, explaining and laying out of information, ideas and arguments. It can be given in a variety of ways, ranging from a straightforward exposition or talk, to the deployment of sophisticated technology. Presentations can vary in terms of length, place and target audience.
