Professor Christopher Andrew

Professor Christopher Andrew is Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Cambridge University, and President of Corpus Christi College. He has been a visiting professor at Harvard and the University of Toronto, and has lectured extensively around the world. In recent years the focus of his research has been the history of secret intelligence services such as MI5, the CIA and the KGB. In 2009 he published Defence of the Realm, an official history of MI5. He has also published The Mitrokin Archive on the KGB, and For the President’s Eyes Only on the CIA. Professor Andrew has recently written an introduction to the James Bond novel From Russia with Love. He comments that ‘intelligence is the only profession where fictional practitioners are a hundred times better known than real practitioners’.

CA The recent history of the intelligence services and terrorism. Since the first publication of Defence of the Realm I have been working upon revising the book in the light of recent developments such as the trials of those involved in the 2006 plot to blow up airlines across the Atlantic.
