Joe Street is a senior lecturer in history at Northumbria University. He specialises in American history, with a particular focus on black radicalism and American popular culture in the 1960s. Street is also interested in the issues of race and racism in Britain, and as a result has been one of the first historians to consider, in any depth, the impact of Malcolm X’s trip to Britain in 1965.

Joe Street’s latest book is The Culture War in the Civil Rights Movement (University Press of Florida, 2007).
