Angular motion

Andy Wrathall examines the theory of angular motion and applies it to different sporting scenarios

Angular motion is a topic on the AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications. All specifications require you to understand how Newton’s laws apply to angular motion and what the relevant definitions are: the conservation of angular momentum during flight, moment of inertia and its relationship with angular velocity.

Angular motion is the movement of an object around a fixed point, known as an axis. It often occurs in sport and can relate to the whole body or a part of the body, such as an arm when throwing an object.
