Solution and notes

1clo is the amount of insulation a resting person needs to keep warm and comfortable in a room without air currents and at an ambient temperature of 70°F (or about 21°C). Every reference I can find to the clo mentions Fahrenheit; it is an older unit that was once based on the standard of comfort afforded by a threepiece suit designed for men. However, there is a modern definition based on the measurement of the rate of heat loss per unit area, per unit kelvin of temperature difference, i.e. WK –1m –2. The clo is the reciprocal of this quantity; 1 clo is equal to 0.155 m 2KW –1.
