All A-level exam boards require a thorough understanding of the debates concerning the importance of the US Constitution, its strengths and weaknesses and its impact on the US government today.

The Founding Fathers were men of property and status within the 13 American colonies, and their attitude to democracy was culturally consistent with their European contemporaries. They feared majority rule with its potential of a permanent majority (made up of the lower classes) riding roughshod over the minority (the ruling classes, to which they belonged).
