For students following Edexcel’s global route, knowledge and understanding of global environmental governance is needed, as is analysis of the competing views on how to tackle environmental issues, including the strengths and weaknesses of international cooperation and agreements, and tensions between the developed and developing world.

In November 2021, the UK hosted the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Glasgow — known more simply as COP26 (see Box 1). Current and former world leaders, activists, journalists and diplomats gathered to negotiate a new international agreement on climate change.
