Alpha and beta biases

Rachel Hare-Mustin and Jeanne Marecek (1988) wrote an article about gender differences and applied this to cultural differences. They identified two kinds of bias in the ways that psychologists view the world:

■ An alpha bias refers to the assumption there are real and enduring differences between men and women, and between people from different cultures.
