Thematic analysis for psychology

What lies beneath the surface?

Thematic analysis (TA) is a research method that is used for identifying and analysing patterns in qualitative data. It is important to recognise that TA does not have a pre-defined set of principles and in fact has been used and described rather inconsistently. This can be quite confusing for the researcher who, coming to TA for the first time, naturally wishes to read examples of good practice in order to gain an idea of what they should be doing, how they should be doing it, what to aim for in terms of a good enough analysis, and what a final report should look and feel like.
