Bullying in school

Key researcher on bullying and violence in schools, Peter K. Smith, gives us an overview

Bullying can happen to anyone Here is one person’s account: ‘There were two girls who were really nasty to me…The abuse and namecalling hurt…I went home, cried and wrote in my diary…It festered away and became a big thing in my life, leaving me wracked with fear about what they would say or do next. It got to the point that I dreaded seeing them at school.’

The quote above comes from Jessica Ennis-Hill, a future champion athlete and Olympic gold medallist, recounting her experiences at school in her biography Unbelievable! (2012).
