Introspection and the emergence of psychology as science

Cara Flanagan provides some exam-based advice to support Hugh Coolican’s article

A n understanding of the process of science underpins the study of psychology. All students study aspects of science and the scientific process, for example looking at the question of whether psychology can truly be considered to be a science (Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and Eduqas) and AQA includes the historical perspective of the origins of psychology as a science. All of the exam boards include various features of science (for example replication, hypothesis testing) in their specifications.

Assess the scientific status of theories and/or studies from the learning theories topic. (8 marks) (Edexcel AS-level)
