Grandparents and the family

Sociology Review

Volume 19 Number 3 February 2010

Anew issue of SOCIOLOGY REVIEW always means new challenges and upto-date research. So it is with this issue. We look at the family, religion, inequality and disability, power and politics, gender, and also research methods. And we look at all these areas in quite unusual ways.

Jennifer Mason and Hazel Bourke lead off with a different way of looking at the family — through the experience of grandparents, who are often forgotten in such debates today. Heather Joshi also has an eye on the family, but she is really interested in the bigger picture of how the lives of UK women have changed over time. It is a revealing account.
