In many Western countries, women are deemed to be more ‘religious’ than men. They attend religious services more frequently than men, and are more likely to say that they pray regularly.

The Pew Research Center’s in-depth report on world religions, published in 2015, looked at different aspects of the gender balance in religious faiths around the world. This issue of SOCIOLOGY REVIEW looks at religious affiliation — that is, those who say that they identify with a particular faith group.
