Rally against hate crime, 31 July 2016
There has been much concern recently about a rise in the number of reported hate crimes. This has particularly been the case since the result of the referendum of 23 June 2016, in which a very slim majority (51.9%) voted for Britain to leave the European Union.
The Crown Prosecution Service has defined a hate crime as follows:
