Rising atheism in British society

As part of the wider process of secularisation in the UK, increasing numbers of people claim no religious identity at all. Who are they and what are their attitudes?

In this article, Ben Clements uses data from quantitative surveys to show changes in levels of religious belief and religious self-identification over time. His analysis of the data identifies some of the social characteristics of atheists and agnostics: gender, age and level of education.
