The 2011 census results mapped

Looking at street-level geography

The UK census is only held every 10 years for a reason — apart from the organisation required in carrying it out, processing all that information takes considerable time too. The results of the 2011 census can be explored on the DataShine website, which has highly detailed and searchable maps of the country

L og on to the DataShine Census website: www.datashine.org.uk. A choropleth map of central London appears but you can zoom out and explore other regions of England and Wales.

To begin, choose <Education> on the ‘Data Chooser’ toolbar, then select <Qualification gained> and <Degree> as the other two variables. A key on the left shows the colour scale used and the proportion of people recorded on the census with that qualification. Now change the third variable to <No qualifications> and see the difference. The amount of detail will differ depending on the scale of the map you have chosen.
