Dharavi is situated in the heart of the Mumbai mega-city, occupying some of the most valuable land in India. This small and densely populated area houses around one million residents. The community of Dharavi has transformed what was once a marshy outpost in central Mumbai into a thriving entrepreneurial community containing thousands of microindustries, thought to have an annual turnover of more than £500 million.
