What’s the best way to deliver international aid?

There are many projects which aim to improve the quality of life for those in most need in countries around the world, but which are most effective? This article looks at different forms of aid provided by three non-government organisations (NGOs). Consider which of them generates the greatest impact for the recipients.

Some aid organisations focus on one particular type of aid, such as providing solar energy to communities, improving resistance to disease through vaccine programmes, or improving rural agriculture. Visit the WaterAid website: http://wateraid.org.uk, which tries to improve community water supplies. On the opening page view the upper menu options and click on ‘The crisis’. From the dropdown menu select ‘Facts and statistics’ and study the water-related data.

Go back to ‘The crisis’ heading and select ‘Hygiene’. Read about the consequences of poor hygiene and how WaterAid attempts to improve the situation. Scroll to the bottom and click through the six slides and their commentary.
