Revision strategies

Phil Waterhouse shows you how to get the best from your revision time

In what is rather cruel scheduling, the main exam season falls at the time of year when the sun is coming out, the nights are getting longer and the thought of being stuck in your room preparing for exams is probably the last thing you would like to be doing. However, as with any economic decision, the concept of opportunity cost is a relevant one.

The option of studying might not seem the most desirable one, but in the long term, the benefit you get from the time you put in is almost certainly worth it. It is also a case of what is called deferred gratification. When the results are issued in August, the sense of achievement that you hopefully will feel from gaining the results that will get you to your university of choice, or a set of AS results that allow you to apply to the better universities in year 13, cannot be underestimated. The purpose of this article is to help you achieve these desired results, not necessarily by working harder but by working smarter.
