Thinking about taking a business degree at university? Kate Jones gives some advice

The thought of leaving home often fills people with a mixture of emotions: excitement, dread, relief, worry. But the general consensus from people heading to university tends to be that they cannot wait to go. When my time came, however, my feelings were somewhat dominated by nerves and panic and I was still unsure whether it was the right thing for me to be doing.

My destination was Manchester to study for a BSc in management. The choice of my degree had been based on my lack of direction and confusion about the future, as according to the prospectus it incorporated aspects from each of my A-levels: business studies, psychology and economics. What’s more, management is applicable to businesses in the real world so it closes comparatively few doors to more specialised degrees, leaving me with a wide range of career options on graduation.
