The step up from GCSE to A-level is a substantial one. The higher-order skills of analysis and evaluation take on greater importance as your knowledge of the key concepts increases. While examiners are still looking for you to show that you have mastered the subject content, they are expecting you to use this to develop your responses to the questions that they set.

All the exam boards have moved away from testing just pure subject knowledge. They use levelled response mark schemes that reward answers that apply, analyse and evaluate in relation to the question. To achieve maximum marks you need to be able to access the higher levels for what is seen as ‘Good’ application, analysis and evaluation.
