The Peak District: a great location for UK manufacturers

in brief

Finding new markets

Americans spend over £25 billion a year on pizza. The market has long been dominated by the major organisations such as Pizza Hut, Papa John’s and Domino’s. However, there is still room for new firms to grab a slice of the market. One such company is the Pizza Studio, which believes it can offer a unique selling point of speed. The major firms are relatively slow in terms of the time it takes to make a pizza, as 30 minutes can elapse between an order being placed and service to table or home.

Pizza Studio takes a different approach. The pizzas are fully customised according to the preferences of the customers, who can choose from different flavoured crusts, several types of sauces, an assortment of cheeses and 25 toppings. The key advantage over rivals is that the pizzas move on a conveyor belt through a convection oven and emerge 2 minutes later crisp and bubbling. The company focuses on lean production throughout, as well as aiming for exemplary customer service. This has seen the company build a cult following. Since the first Pizza Studio opened in 2012, the company has expanded to 25 locations and by the end of 2015 it expects to have close to 100 locations through a franchising business model.
