People: authority to zero hours

Each of the following terms in human resource (people) management causes problems for students in exams. You may think you know authority and job security. But do you know them well enough to impress an examiner?

The power to get others to act on your advice or orders. This might come officially (e.g. due to your job title) or unofficially (e.g. due to your personal qualities).

The vertical sequence from top to bottom of an organisation by which orders cascade down the hierarchy. Within this chain, each employee has only one boss, so accountability is clear.
