answer back

Folic acid

You may not have heard of folic acid or seen its structure before, so on first reading, this synoptic question from a recent A2 examination might appear a little frightening. However, on closer inspection you should recognise that most parts only require you to apply existing knowledge in a new context.

The question covers a wide range of chemical concepts (see ‘Exam links’ box) so it is important to keep your concentration. It is taken from the Salters ‘Chemistry by Design’ paper, originally set in June 2010. OCR has given permission for its use here, but the responsibility for answers and comments rests solely with CHEMISTRY REVIEW.
