How can studying economics help to prepare you for your future career? Ashley Lait interviews Sarah Bagland, a recent economics graduate from the University of Exeter, who is now working as an economist in the Government Economic Service

SB I have been working as a government economist at the Department of Health for just over 3 months. I first discovered my love for economics when I studied the subject at A-level. I didn’t know anything about economics before my first lesson but I soon realised how important the study and use of economics is, and how much we rely on it in our daily lives.

SB The majority of the economic theories that I use in my daily work were first introduced to me at A-level — this gave me a foundation of understanding that I continued to build on at university. This highlights to me the incredible importance of my A-level learning as a base upon which I am continually developing.
