Economics in the workplace

How can studying economics help to prepare you for your future career? Ashley Lait interviews Elizabeth Drapper, a press officer at the Bank of England

AL When did you first study economics and what attracted you to the subject?

ED My introduction to economics was at A-Level. I took the decision to study economics back in 2007 when the world was a very different place and ‘the economy’ had become a standard dinner conversation, rather than something people thought meant investment banking. I wanted to understand more about what was happening in the world and why. As I’ve learnt over the years, there is very little that economics doesn’t cover and the insights it provides can be applied to pretty much any situation.
