Update on London’s Olympics

The site of the Olympic Stadium, as at April 2009

Previous Getting Started columns have looked at the characteristics of London’s Olympic bid, and progress on the site (see Further reading). This is the second of a series of annual updates that will review progress to 2012.

Whether viewed from the 2012 website, or close up in the field, the biggest change is visual. The main Olympic and Paralympic Stadium, the Aquatic Centre and the new Velodrome have all emerged from their foundations in the past year and have begun to make an impact upon the east London landscape. Even the Olympic Village, delayed for a few months by the credit crunch, is now a set of firm foundations, and likely to be complete by late 2010.
