This Question and Answer examines an Edexcel A2 Unit 3 Contested Planet question on water conflicts. The original question appeared in the January 2010 examination. It has a common format for A2 style questions. The question’s 25 marks are split between a 10-mark data-stimulus question and a 15-mark essay question. The essay question assesses evaluation skills, as many A2 questions do. Although this is an Edexcel question the comments about datastimulus and essay-writing are relevant to all boards. The question is printed in bold type and the students’ answers are in italics.
