Skill acquisition is a key topic for all major exam boards.

What are the stages or phases through which top-flight sports performers progress while learning and developing motor skills? To answer this question, we must look at the types of feedback used by coaches and utilised by participantsat each stage. We should also examine the methods of guidance that best facilitate skill acquisition during progressive phases. Table 1 shows the progressive phases of learning and acquired competence, and Table 2 shows the types of feedback.
