Learn how to manipulate logarithms and use log–log graphs

What are logarithms and why are they useful in physics? To explain what they are, I will start with an example:

In practice, only two bases are in common use: base 10 and base e. Logarithms to the base 10 are known as common logarithms. Logarithms to the base e are known as natural logarithms. I’ll be returning to the irrational number e in a later Mathskit. For now, just be aware that e has the approximate value 2.71828 — and there is a reason for this.
