The oldest ‘political dynasties’ are of course the rulers and monarchs of ancient civilisations. However, they are remarkably present in the modern world — and not just in totalitarian states such as North Korea with the Kim Il-Sung, Kim Jong-Il and now Kim Jong-Un dynasty, but also in the most vibrant democracies across all continents:
