Each examination board has different ways of assessing students’ understanding of synoptic elements — but if you can display a good understanding of synopticity, this will boost your exam mark, whichever specification you are following.

However, there is a pitfall. In exams it is not just a question of describing these synoptic elements, it is about being able to use them to discuss the core topics you have studied. This is not easy, which is why those students who can do it gain higher marks.
