The BPS Research Digest digested

The British Psychological Society aims to provide support for all kinds of psychologists, including A-level psychology students. Anthony Curtis reports

One of the ways that the BPS can support you is through its Research Digest, which provides fairly detailed summaries of the latest in psychological research. The Research Digest team reads through hundreds of peer-reviewed journals to locate studies that will be of interest to you — studies that they think make an important contribution to psychology and which are relevant to real-life. These summaries can be read on the award-winning blog (see http://bps-research-digest.blogspot.co.uk) or you can have them emailed to you fortnightly. The emailed digest provides eight articles at a time, with links to the A-level specifications. You can subscribe free – just go to the website (which will look similar to our screenshot below) and click on one of the choices in the box ‘Follow the Digest!’

To give you a taste of what you will find in the digest, page 27 contains the opening paragraphs of a few of their articles. These samples show how the articles provide details of the aims, methodology and results. This is an excellent way to find up-to-date material that will interest your teachers and enhance your exam answers. In addition, the method sections are reasonably detailed — reading them will help your understanding of research methods.
