January 2009 saw the first examinations for the new AQA AS sociology units. This article looks at how candidates performed and points out some of the things you should keep in mind if you are taking AS units this year.

Overall, the examiners were pleased with how candidates performed — certainly as well as the previous January in terms of the grades they achieved. However, in marking the papers they identified pitfalls and avoidable errors that you need to watch out for. This is your chance to learn from others’ mistakes — much better than having to learn from your own.
