Below is an example of the type of question that might appear on an A-level paper on the topic of families. In small groups of two or three, draft an answer to this question. You are given some opening lines of paragraphs that should help you to develop a logical structure and cover at least some of the most important points. You should not only sketch out what might be included in each paragraph, but also to decide in which order you would write them, as they have been given in random order. Deciding on the appropriate order will help to give your answer a logical structure. Remember that your answer should contain evidence of all the skills.
When you have an agreed structure, make rough notes as to what would be included in each section. Then write the essay, taking about 40–45 minutes to do so.
