Moving to the country

You need to know about the causes and consequences of counter-urbanisation for your GCSE course. This case study looks at a village, Litton in Derbyshire, which has had an influx of people moving from urban areas in recent years.

In recent decades there has been a shift in population in the UK from urban to rural areas. This process is called counter-urbanisation. In poorer countries migrants from villages continue to flock to cities in pursuit of a better life, but the trend in many developed countries is to leave urban areas and move to the countryside.
