Tackling climate change

Climate change and global warming are major issues facing the world today. They are also an important element of GCSE geography. But how are the issues and their impacts to be resolved?

Temperatures around the globe are steadily getting warmer. There has been a rise of approximately 0.75°C in the last 150 years, and the rate at which temperatures continue to rise is increasing. WIDEWORLD Vol. 28, No. 1 explored the reasons for this rise, the climatic changes taking place, and the effects these changes are having on weather patterns, the environment and lives of people across the world.

The effects are almost entirely negative as they upset the balance of nature and consequently people’s livelihoods and food supply. Scientists overwhelmingly agree that it is the actions of people — particularly the rise in emissions of greenhouse gases — which are to blame.
