Tectonic hazards

This Question and Answer looks at an AS physical geography question for Edexcel Unit 1. The question is about hazard risk and the causes of tectonic hazards in the contexts of the California coast and the Philippines. These are compulsory case studies in Edexcel Unit 1. As the focus here is mainly tectonic hazards, this Question and Answer is also relevant to students studying Edexcel A2 and other boards (see Box 1). The question is printed in bold type and the students’ answers are in italics. The examiner’s comments are the responsibility of GEOGRAPHY REVIEW and have neither been provided nor approved by the examination board.
