David Tuck explains what the examiner expects on political ideas questions

Political ideas are divided into ‘core’ and ‘non-core’ and are examined on different papers (Table 1). All questions on political ideas will be a debate. You will be expected to review differences of opinion within a political idea and make a substantiated judgement. You will also be required to demonstrate how political ideas relate to human nature, the state, society and the economy.

All political ideas questions will have the same command words, i.e. they will all ask ‘To what extent’ you might agree or disagree with a statement. Your answer must satisfy the three assessment objectives (AOs, see Box 1).
